Elegant, woven, silky.
The da Silva estate is located on the Naramata Bench and is owned by Richard and Twylla da Silva. Da Silva's story begins in 1955 when the family moved from Portugal to the Okanagan Valley--in 1959 they purchased an orchard. Almost 50 years later, in 2006, the family built a winery and today they draw fruit from 11 different vineyards/growers located in: Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos and Penticton.
The winery is also home to The Kitchen at da Silva, where a fusion of Mexican~Portuguese tapas is the theme.
This 100% Cabernet Franc comes from grapes grown in the clay loam soils of the Avila Family Vineyard in Oliver; it was aged one-half American and one-half French oak (medium+ toast) barrel for 36 months. You might think, whoa that seems like a lot, but the results here are nothing short of stunning--the best BC Cabernet Franc I have tasted.
It's a pretty wine with a nose of red currents and red plums, cedar, violets, star anise and pencil shavings with hints of dried orange peel, chocolate and bourbon barrel. The palate is elegant and silky with beautifully woven flavours to echo the nose and it has clove on the finish. There is a juicy character, but overall it is pure finesse.
200 cases made.
